Best AI video editors for PC and phone: free and paid
To quickly edit Reels, screen recordings, or a showreel, you need an editor for a specific job. We compared ten software families: what is actually available for free, where AI helps, what export limitations appear, and where a beginner should start.

How we compared them
The review is based on active product pages, help guides, and developer descriptions in stores. We checked platforms, basic export, watermarks, payment methods, AI limits, and language conditions. This is an analytical review of documentation, not a laboratory test of all programs. We did not measure editing minutes, battery drain, or subtitle accuracy on the same video.
Ease of use is evaluated by the number of features to master: simple trimming and templates, multiple tracks, or professional work with color, sound, and project transfer. This is a qualitative editorial assessment based on the described criteria.
In this article free script means the ability to finish your own video into a usable file without mandatory payment. A trial period, a paid AI pack, and downloading an editor without the right to clean export are different things. A generator like a "text → video" service also does not replace an editor where you assemble your own footage and fix the edit.
Which editor to try first?
Choose your device, task, and budget. The guide shows editorial candidates for testing, rather than checking your device's compatibility.
Comparison: devices, free options, and complexity
On mobile, you can scroll the table sideways. A detailed breakdown of each program follows immediately below. Different versions of the same brand may have different terms.
| Program / devices | What's free | Simplicity | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Microsoft ClipchampWindows, PC/Mac browser | 1080p without watermark; basic AI tools | Low barrier to entry | 4K and some resources are Premium |
| DaVinci Resolve / StudioWindows, macOS, Linux; iPad separately | Powerful editing, color, and sound; up to UHD 60 fps in supported formats | High barrier to entry | A significant portion of advanced AI capabilities is in Studio |
| Adobe Premiere on PCWindows, macOS | Trial period; no permanent free desktop plan | High barrier to entry | Subscription, generative credits, separate language check |
| Adobe Premiere on mobileiOS, Android | Editing, auto-subtitles, and export without watermark | Medium barrier to entry | Generative AI tools are paid; currently iOS only |
| Final Cut ProMac; separate version for iPad | Trial access; full functionality is paid | Medium → high barrier to entry | Not for Windows or Android; Mac/iPad have different capabilities |
| Wondershare FilmoraWindows, macOS; separate mobile versions | Editing can be tried; desktop export includes a watermark | Medium barrier to entry | License, AI credits, and resources — different payment terms |
| CapCutWindows, macOS, iOS, Android, web | Basic editing; export terms depend on the features used | Low → medium barrier to entry | Pro resources may require payment upon export; availability depends on region |
| VNAndroid, iOS; also Windows and Mac | Basic editing without watermark; local subtitle models at no cost | Low → medium barrier to entry | Cloud subtitles require credits; check version capabilities separately |
| InShotAndroid, iPhone/iPad; iOS version on certain Macs | Basic editing with ads and limitations; Pro removes the watermark | Low barrier to entry | The free base does not equal the full AI toolkit |
| Edits from InstagramAndroid, iPhone | 4K export without added watermark | Low barrier to entry | Requires an Instagram account; not a full replacement for desktop editing |
| DescriptWindows, macOS, web | Limited free plan; clean export is in paid plans | Easy start for broadcasting in a supported language | Ukrainian is not in the verified list of input transcription |
In detail: what's convenient, what's annoying, and who it's for
Microsoft Clipchamp
For personal Microsoft accounts, the free plan includes export up to 1080p without a watermark, auto-captions, voiceovers, and silence removal. Premium adds 4K, paid assets, and a brand kit; these features are included in the respective Microsoft 365 Personal/Family plans. Enterprise versions have separate terms.
Convenience and our conclusion. Our choice for a first screencast or a simple video on Windows: a limited set of tasks makes starting easier. For complex client editing with many tracks, it's better to look at a professional editor right away. The browser format itself does not guarantee smooth operation on a weak laptop.
What to try. Record a minute of screen footage, add voice and subtitles, fix one phrase, and export in 1080p. Check the readability of the small interface on a phone.
DaVinci Resolve / Studio
Blackmagic describes the free Resolve as an editor with color correction and audio, with export up to 3840×2160 at 60 fps in supported scenarios. Studio adds Neural Engine, voice isolation, AI noise reduction, and other tools. On the verified US page, Studio is shown at $236 instead of $295 — a promotional price, not a guaranteed Ukrainian offer.
Convenience and our conclusion. The strongest start without paying for the editing itself in our selection for those ready to learn. But "free Resolve" does not mean "all AI is free." If you just want to trim three clips, the interface scale might get in the way. For a showreel, color grading, and further professional growth, this complexity is justified.
What to try. Import your own HEVC/HDR file from a phone and a standard MP4. Check playback and color after export, and only then decide if you need Studio. Do not automatically assume the desktop version's terms apply to the iPad.

Adobe Premiere on PC
Adobe offers text-based editing, Enhance Speech for audio improvement, Media Intelligence search, and Generative Extend. The US Premiere page lists $22.99 per month for an annual plan paid monthly. This is not a no-commitment rate; check new subscription and renewal terms for the introductory price. Generative capabilities have credit-based terms.
Convenience and our conclusion. Suitable for regular work and sharing projects with a team that already uses Premiere. For a few home videos, the subscription and complexity might be overkill. Don't buy it just for the promise of "AI subtitles": support for Ukrainian recognition specifically needs to be checked separately.
What to try. Edit a fragment with voice, try audio cleaning, and check how another editor would open your project. Compatibility for sharing is more important than a single flashy generation.
Adobe Premiere on mobile
Mobile Premiere is a special case: Adobe claims free editing, auto-captions, and watermark-free export on iOS and Android. According to the current page, generative AI tools are paid and only available on iOS. The feature sets of the platforms differ.
Convenience and our conclusion. An interesting free option if you need multi-track editing on a phone. You shouldn't assume the paid nature of desktop Premiere applies to mobile or expect the versions to be identical. For your first video, compare it with VN and Edits: it's important to see where you find trimming, text, and sound faster.
What to try. Try two video layers, voice, and captions, then export without generation. Make sure your specific platform has the necessary tool before starting a large project.

Final Cut Pro
Final Cut Pro works on Mac and iPad. Apple features Magnetic Mask for object isolation, automatic subtitles, and smart search. The US page offers a one-time purchase for $299.99 and Apple Creator Studio for $12.99/month or $129/year. Some premium content is tied to a subscription; the Mac and iPad versions are not identical.
Convenience and our conclusion. Our candidate for someone planning to stay on Mac and wanting a choice between a subscription and a one-time purchase. The unusual editing logic requires getting used to it: first, complete one full project in the trial version. For collaboration, ask which project format the client requires.
What to try. Rearrange three fragments in the middle of the edit and check how the linked audio and subtitles move. The convenience of this operation for you is more important than the advertised number of features.

Wondershare Filmora
The free desktop Filmora adds a watermark to exports. On the verified page, Basic costs $49.99/year, while Advanced shows $59.99/year instead of $69.99 and includes 1000 AI credits monthly. Perpetual refers to the current main version, not all future ones; credits for this plan are issued once. Basic does not have the Advanced credit package. Verify desktop and mobile access according to your specific plan.
Convenience and our conclusion. A compromise for those who want more ready-made styling but are not ready to learn Resolve or Premiere. The main trap is evaluating the free editing only to see paid exports or exhausted credits at the very end. Before purchasing, check the entire workflow, including resources and auto-renewal of additional packages.
What to try. Open the cart without paying: check the plan, platform, included credits, trial additional packages, and the renewal price. Save a test fragment and see where the watermark is placed.
CapCut
CapCut offers desktop, mobile, and web versions, along with tools like auto-captions and background removal. Official help explains: a Pro element in a project may trigger a subscription requirement upon export. Another page explicitly states that pricing depends on region and device. Therefore, we do not fix a single price "for all Ukrainians."
Convenience and our conclusion. Suitable for short social media videos if styled subtitles and effects are needed. However, an easy start does not guarantee a free finish. For a Ukrainian user, this is a conditional candidate: check availability in your official store and the tariff in your own account. We have not confirmed regional availability for all versions.
What to try. Before editing for an hour, add a required template, subtitles, and an effect to a 20-second clip and try to export. This way, you will immediately see exactly which function requires payment.
VN
VN claims editing without a watermark. For Auto Captions, the official page describes free local Tiny/Base models that work on-device after downloading, and a cloud mode via credits. The site provides links for iOS, Android, Mac, and Windows. The same name does not prove an identical feature set across all versions.
Convenience and our conclusion. A good candidate for mobile editing without a mandatory subscription. Local subtitles are particularly interesting if you don't want to upload audio to the cloud. This does not mean that every VN AI feature is local or free. Check the recognition quality and Ukrainian language support with your own recording.
What to try. Download a local model, generate subtitles for your own phrase, and check it works without an internet connection. Do not enable cloud mode during this test.
InShot
InShot features auto-captions, background removal, and object tracking. The Pro description promises ad and watermark removal. During testing, the Ukrainian App Store page showed $5.99/month, $19.99/year, and a Lifetime option for $59.99. This is a list of iOS purchases, not a guarantee of the same rate on Android or all terms in your cart.
Convenience and our conclusion. One of our options for someone who primarily needs to crop, reformat, and add text on a phone. For long interviews or many complex layers, look at the ease of moving clips rather than just the number of effects. Check Lifetime separately regarding new AI limits.
What to try. Make a vertical video from two clips, add music and a title, and export. Check what actually made it into the file: logo, sound, separation, and the required effects.
Edits from Instagram
Edits is available on Android and iPhone. The app description claims free 4K export without a watermark, auto-captions, voice enhancement, and AI image animation. An Instagram account is used for login. The in-app purchase tag in the store does not negate the claimed free basic editing, but future AI terms should not be considered a permanent promise.
Convenience and our conclusion. Our first candidate for a Reels creator who already uses Instagram and wants to edit on a phone. The finished video can be uploaded and used outside of Instagram. For long, complex work, check project management first; being social-media oriented does not make it a professional editing station.
What to try. Export a short clip to a file and view it outside of Instagram. Verify the subtitles, sound, and sharpness after uploading to your main platform.
Descript
Descript combines text-based editing and audio work. The Hobbyist plan on the pricing page shows $24 monthly or $16 per month with annual billing, 10 media hours, and 1080p export without a watermark. Ukrainian is not in the verified official list of transcription languages; Ukrainian subtitle translation is a separate feature.
Convenience and our conclusion. A strong candidate for English-language interviews, podcasts, or talking-head videos. For a Ukrainian-language channel, we do not recommend it as a first choice for automatic editing via Ukrainian transcript: the key advantage is not confirmed for this language. A beautiful interface does not compensate for such incompatibility.
What to try. Upload a short English clip, delete a sentence via text, and listen to the transition. Check if the breath or the beginning of the next word is cut off.
Prices: what you are actually paying for
All amounts below are a snapshot of official pages as of October 23, 2026. US means a US dollar benchmark, not a guaranteed bill for Ukraine. Taxes, region, store, promotions, and renewal prices may vary. For InShot, the Ukrainian iOS page is specified separately. Prices are listed in USD; verify the final payment amount in your store.
| Program | Payment | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Microsoft Clipchamp | Free; Premium included in respective Microsoft 365 Personal/Family plans | 4K and some resources are Premium |
| DaVinci Resolve / Studio | Free; Studio: on the US page, a $236 promo instead of $295, one-time license | A significant portion of advanced AI capabilities is in Studio |
| Adobe Premiere on PC | US benchmark: $22.99/mo for an annual plan with monthly billing | Subscription, generative credits, separate language check |
| Adobe Premiere on mobile | Basic editor is free; generative capabilities are paid separately | Generative AI tools are paid; currently iOS only |
| Final Cut Pro | US: $299.99 one-time or Apple Creator Studio $12.99/mo or $129/year | Not for Windows or Android; Mac/iPad have different capabilities |
| Wondershare Filmora | US page: Basic $49.99/year; Advanced shows a promo of $59.99/year instead of $69.99 | License, AI credits, and resources — different payment terms |
| CapCut | There is no single global price: the amount depends on region, device, and promotions | Pro resources may require payment upon export; availability depends on region |
| VN | Free basic script; cloud AI features — via credits | Cloud subtitles require credits; check version capabilities separately |
| InShot | UA App Store shows Pro $5.99/mo, $19.99/yr, Lifetime $59.99; Android is separate | The free base does not equal the full AI toolkit |
| Edits from Instagram | The basic editor is free; stores also indicate in-app purchases | Requires an Instagram account; not a full replacement for desktop editing |
| Descript | US Hobbyist: $24/mo or the equivalent of $16/mo with annual billing | Ukrainian is not in the verified list of input transcription |
Compare costs the required finished video: license + AI credits + resources + time for fixes. If you bought an annual plan with monthly billing, it is not the same as a one-month subscription. A "one-time purchase" also does not mean unlimited cloud generations or all future major versions. In Filmora, it is especially worth checking the terms for Perpetual licenses and credits.
A discount makes sense when you already know which feature you need. Before paying, one small project is enough, but one with all the complex parts: voice, mask, title, your camera format, and final export. If everything works for free, a paid plan might not improve anything yet.
Ukrainian subtitles: three different checks
Ukrainian interface, Ukrainian voice recognition, and translating existing subtitles into Ukrainian are separate functions. The presence of one does not confirm the others. This is especially important for interviews, lessons, and videos with mixed languages.
Descript: Ukrainian is not in the verified list of input transcription languages, although it is among the subtitle translation languages. Premiere on PC: Ukrainian is also missing from the verified official Speech-to-Text list. This conclusion refers specifically to the documentation and the function, not the claim that "Ukrainian text is impossible in the program in general." We do not include mobile version capabilities in the desktop list.
For the rest of the editors in this review, we do not mark "Ukrainian accuracy verified": we did not perform the same audio test. Before subscribing, record 30 seconds: "My name is Yehor. The meeting in Kamianets-Podilskyi is on the twenty-third of October. The budget has not been agreed upon yet." Check the name, the apostrophe, the city, the date, and the word "not".
Then fix the text, change the line breaks, and review the subtitles on your phone. Two short, readable lines are more useful than flashy animation that covers your face. If you need an external transcript, start with our audio → text Ukrainian script; check SRT import separately in your chosen editor.
Weak PC, phone overheating, and offline work
Don't choose a "light" editor based on a label without testing your own file. Complexity depends on the source video, effects, resolution, and the specific device. Take the same one-minute clip into two editors. Check the smoothness of scrubbing, the delay when adding a title, and whether you can continue working during export. Note your observations on your own device.
On a computer, try using lightweight editing copies — proxies, if the editor supports them. Before the final export, verify that the required originals are being used. On a phone, check the available space and the ability to reopen a saved project: a beautiful preview won't help if the file cannot be uploaded.
"The program is installed locally" does not mean its AI works without the internet. Microsoft explicitly describes Clipchamp's auto-caption audio processing via Azure. VN separately describes local Tiny/Base and cloud modes. For confidential material, check the specific function and the permission to transmit the recording, not just the name of the editor.
One exercise instead of ten unnecessary subscriptions
Compare only two candidates. Tutorial video: three original clips, one phrase in Ukrainian, a subtitle, quiet music, and a short shot with a complex background. The goal is to get a vertical MP4 that can be viewed outside the editor. Using identical files and the same result makes the comparison fairer.
- Import. Does your file open? Is there any strange color or missing sound?
- Manual correction. Is it easy to find a cut, change the volume, and fix one error in a subtitle?
- AI. Did it actually remove a routine task? Listen to see if the audio cleaning distorted the voice.
- Export. Check for watermarks, separation, sound, and paid elements. Check the finished file in another player.
- Return. Close and reopen the project. Do you know where the originals are and how to hand the work over to another person?

Quick answers
Which AI video editor is easiest for a beginner?
For a first video on Windows, we would start with Clipchamp; on a phone, with Edits if you have Instagram or VN. If you want ready-made styling and you accept payments, compare Filmora on PC and InShot on mobile. These are starting candidates, not a universal win for a single editor.
What can be used for free without a watermark?
From the confirmed basic conditions in the selection: Clipchamp up to 1080p, Edits with claimed 4K, mobile Premiere, and basic VN. Resolve has strong free editing, but using specific Studio features requires a license. In CapCut, check specific project elements; do not choose the free desktop Filmora if you need a clean export.
Is it worth a professional switching for the sake of one new AI tool?
First, calculate the project migration, habits, team sharing, and correction time. Small automation in a familiar program can be more valuable than a large new set of effects. For an animator's showreel, precise joints, predictable frame rate, color, and the absence of motion artifacts are especially important.
Will AI do all the editing for me?
It can help with a draft, text, or a repetitive operation. Choosing the frame, tempo, content, and the final check remain part of the author's work. Ask it to prepare a version, but do not automatically assume it is ready for publication.
