How to check if ChatGPT mentions you

Don't start with an expensive service. In 30 minutes, you can check ten real queries, record mentions and sources, and then separately see if AI assistants are bringing people to your site.

What exactly you are measuring

"ChatGPT mentions me" can mean four different things. If you mix them into one metric, it's easy to get a beautiful report without business value.

SignalWhat it provesWhat it does not prove
MentionThe brand or product name appeared in the response to a specific prompt. That the mention will repeat tomorrow or for another person.
CitationThe AI provided a clickable link to your page. That a person opened the link.
TransitionAnalytics recorded a visit from a well-known AI assistant. That the visitor became a customer.
ResultThere is a separate goal: an application, a subscription, or a confirmed purchase. That it was caused by a single mention without correct attribution.

Generative model responses vary. They are influenced by phrasing, the model, whether web search mode is on or off, date, country, and conversation context. Therefore, any "AI visibility score" is the result of a sample based on a specific methodology, not a complete list of all ChatGPT responses.

Free 30-minute audit

  1. Select one buyer task. For example: find a Ukrainian resource about Vibe Coding, choose an accountant in Lviv, or order 3D animation for a product.
  2. Compose 10 specific queries. Do not include the brand name in all queries: you need to see if you appear without a hint.
  3. Record the conditions. New chat, model name, search mode, date, language, and country. Do not mix results from different conditions into one column.
  4. Check the response. Note the mention, context, position in the list, cited source, and exact URL. Open the link: it must exist and confirm the claim.
  5. Repeat later. One run is a starting snapshot. To track a trend, you need the same set of queries under the same conditions.
  6. Match with actions. Separately check AI traffic, landing pages, and actual conversions. No transitions does not automatically mean "poor visibility": some responses may not contain a link.

Vibe Coding Table already has columns for prompt, model, mode, mention, quote, URL, competitors, and next action. It does not send data to the website: it is a standard CSV for Excel, Google Sheets, or LibreOffice.

10 template queries

Replace the words in square brackets. Do not use all ten if they do not resemble your customer's real path.

  1. Which Ukrainian [services/specialists] help with [task]?
  2. Recommend a [product type] for [audience] in Ukraine.
  3. Compare three options for [task] by price, risks, and time.
  4. Where can I find a practical instruction in Ukrainian about [topic]?
  5. Who can help with [service] in [city/country]?
  6. What sources should I read before [decision]?
  7. Which tool is suitable for a beginner to achieve [result]?
  8. What are the typical mistakes during [task] and how can they be avoided?
  9. How does [your category] differ from alternatives?
  10. Make a short list of [product] suppliers with links to primary sources.

How to see transitions from ChatGPT and other AI assistants in GA4

In Google Analytics, as of May 13, 2026, there is a standard channel AI Assistant. For recognized sources, GA4 assigns a medium ai-assistant and campaign (ai-assistant). Google explicitly names ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude among the examples. This measures transitions, not all mentions or response displays.

  1. Open Reports → Traffic acquisition.
  2. Select dimension Session default channel group and find AI Assistant.
  3. Add a second dimension Session source / medium, to avoid mixing different assistants.
  4. Check the landing page, interaction, and the required goal. Filter your own hostname if the resource collects events from multiple domains.

Additional UTM parameters are useful for your own links that you control. However, you cannot force ChatGPT's response to include your UTM. Do not rename all AI traffic manually if GA4 already classifies the source.

Paid tools: what they add

Prices below — a public snapshot of official pages as of 25.10.2026. Taxes, region, discounts, and plan composition may change the bill. We have not purchased these services or compared their accuracy on the same sample.

ToolPublic termsWhen it's appropriate
Semrush AI VisibilityBase: $99/month per domain with annual billing; 25 custom prompts and daily tracking.Regular reports on mentions and competitors for a single domain are needed.
Ahrefs Brand RadarSeparate product from $199/month; custom prompts start from an additional $50/month. Web Analytics for AI traffic is stated as free.Broader research into citations, competitors, and AI traffic is required.
Peec AIStarter: 50 prompts, 3 models, daily tracking, 1 project; price was not displayed in the verified public HTML version. The team wants to track their own set of prompts across multiple models.

The service price does not prove accuracy or ROI. Ask for an export of raw responses, geographic description, model, repetition frequency, and the method for counting mentions. If a tool only provides a single "visibility percentage" without prompts and citations, the conclusion is difficult to verify.

When to continue, and when to stop

  • Continue for free, if you have up to 10–20 queries, one brand, and check a hypothesis once a month.
  • Automation makes sense, if manual collection is already repetitive, you need specific countries/languages/competitors, and there is a person who will update the site based on the results.
  • Don't buy a report just for the sake of a report, if there are no pages that answer the buyer's queries, or if leads/subscriptions are not being measured.
  • Review the content, if you are mentioned but the wrong page is cited: clarify the heading, short answer, authorship, date, sources, and internal links. Do not create a duplicate of the same topic.

Quick answers

Is there a service that shows all ChatGPT mentions accurately?

No. Services repeat a set of prompts and record a sample of responses. The result can vary depending on the model, search mode, time, country, and query phrasing.

What is the difference between a mention and a click to the website?

A mention is a brand or website name in a response. A citation is a link to a specific page. A click occurs only when a person clicks a link; it can be analyzed separately in GA4.

How many prompts are enough for an initial check?

For an initial hypothesis, 10 specific customer queries are enough. It is not a statistically complete picture, but it already shows whether the AI understands what task your website is for and which pages it cites.

When is it worth paying for AI visibility monitoring?

When the list of queries has already been manually verified, responses need to be collected regularly or for several brands, countries, and models, and making decisions based on a report costs more than a subscription.
